Incorporating alternative investments into a portfolio can potentially lead to significant losses including in some cases, losses which exceed the principal amount invested. Also, some alternative investments have experienced periods of extreme volatility and in general, are not suitable for all investors. Alternative investments should generally be regarded as long-term investments and should be considered illiquid. Alternative investments generally have fees that are materially higher than the fees of traditional investments. Asset allocation and diversification strategies do not ensure profit or protect against loss in declining markets.
